More Pet Portraits

Here are a few more pet projects from the last few weeks. I am starting my days earlier and working longer to try to keep up. I love this time of year. The days just fly by.

If you are thinking about ordering for Christmas and you need a guaranteed delivery please place your commission by November 15th. That is just about a week away!

After that posted cut off date:
Every year it is the same story, we have tons of folks trying to order custom artwork after posted deadlines. Every year I kill myself trying to meet all these late requests. This year after November 15th I will promise on-line proofing only. If you do order late and If you provide a very high quality photo so that your project will go smoothly, and If you approve right away without sending us back to color tweak, then you can probably still have a portrait under the tree for Christmas. If you have deadline concerns you can always give us a call and we will do what we can to work with you.

One Year Anniversary!

Today marks the first anniversary of Tektonten Papercraft! Above is a photo of a shelf in my office where I keep some of the papercraft I have built in the past year. Seven of the papercraft models shown were designed by me while the rest were built from templates downloaded from the Internet. I thought I would take this occasion to share some of the stats for Tektonten Papercraft's first year...

  • Number of page views: just under 500,000
  • Number of downloads of my papercraft designs: 36,000 and counting
  • Number of original papercraft designs: 41

The top ten most popular papercraft I created from November 2008 to September 2009 (based on average downloads per day) are:

--------Papercraft----------------Days Posted-------Avg. Downloads / day--------
1) Death Eater Mask #1................46.......................20.7
2) Death Eater Mask #2................40.......................13.4
3) Full Size Tron Helmet...............104.......................9.9
4) HAL9000 Interface..................353.......................8.9
5) Spider-Man Mask....................190.......................8.1
6) Mjolnir, Thor's Hammer............345.......................7.5
7) Kanonashi (No Face) Mask..........287.......................7.1
8) Klingon Knife.........................141.......................6.8
9) Tron Bit (No).........................304.......................6.7
10) Uruk-hai Sword.....................196.......................6.2

Here's a big "Thank you!" to everyone who supported my efforts in the past year. God willing, I am looking forward to another productive year of papercrafting fun.

This week I have been working on several Boxer dog projects. They are one of my all time favorite subjects and I have done many Boxers over the years. Sometimes I will have a cluster of specific breed orders come in at the same time. I always wonder if there is some magazine article or even blog post that generated such interest. Today I am finalizing Roxy.

A note to Holiday Clients:
Please let me know if you prefer to not have your artwork featured on the blog! I do not want to spoil any surprises if your recipient might happen to follow the blog.

Jeep Cherokee Papercraft

I don't want to use the word "obsessed", but Japanese papercrafter Masanori Shimozato is definitely enthusiastic about Jeep Cherokees. Shimozato's papercraft webpage has models of what appears to be every color and trim package available for the 1996 Jeep Cherokee (and that includes both the US and Japanese versions of the vehicle!). To download a template of one of the 47 different Cherokees, take a look here.

Anonymous. 3 works by Armin Rohr

I can't get these pictures out of my head.
Especially the last one is mesmerizing. Is it peaceful? Mysterious? Haunting? Creepy? Brutal?
The mass in the first two paintings that makes up a threatening, or at least disquieting block, is here replaced by three distinct figures. The space is neither claustrophobic, as in the first one, nor agoraphobic, as could be claimed about the second (notice the ceiling moving up above the horizontal line that "closes" the picture). In the third picture, the space is abstract. It is the water we often feel is the closest to the sky. So what's the matter? Maybe it's the skyish space combined with the strokes, the juicy, dripping pinks that get feverish in the center? Maybe it's the unfaceness of these faces? The ghost should be ephemeral, translucid. Yet here, the ghosts are opaque. They are thick with body. And moving in.

All works are by Armin Rohr, found on his blog.
